build, design, and wire up a ddr pad for home?

Does anyone know how to make a complete metal or wooden home pad so I dont have to waste $200 just to buy one. If anyone knows tell me how and about how much it would cost. I dont really know how to wire things up that well.

Another way towards it is that you can look on EBAY. That crazy website's got everything.

On another note, my mother tells me soldering is very simple, you just need to know what it is you're soldering.
