I was screwing around with my DDR Stepmania sim, and put on 1.5x speed and wave. AND HOLY poopy DOES IT GET YOU BTTER AT PA'ING! You actually have to get in the groove of the song to do it, because you can't really tell when it will go up, but you can tell which arrow will be next. Try it sometime, it rocks.

I <3 Phi's sound effects

Anyway, most of the modifiers that don't have the arrows traveling at a constant rate upward will get you better at PA. Boost, Wave, Expand, Brake, and the dreaded Boomerang. Because, you will to listen to the song to find where to hit the arrow, instead of waiting for its placement on the screen.
