Help with my EMS converter

Well I just got the levelsix.com EMS gun converter type thing, and deluxe pad they have.

My problem is the ddr pads WORK up until I try to play a song or pushing the up left/right or down left/right buttons' on my pad then the arrows cease to work.

how do i fix this problem and keep it from happening?

I think the way you can solve this (I had to do it with my cousin's converter/pads) is you hold up, select, and start down at the same time. Strange....but it worked....at least with his.
