Hey, does anyone here know why sometimes in SM, with the "Max" skin, in the middle of a song, Charmy will pop out of the lower right hand corner say "toasty" and then leave? It's been confusing me for a while now. Thanks.

There is an option to turn it off, I think it's in the Gameplay options screen.

..and I forgot that there were many threads about this in the original at Home forum. I think I'll need to look some of them up and put a few answers in the FAQ.

just in case you guys don't remember (and i'm sure that you do,) the "toasty" soundbyte comes from mortal kombat 2. i forgot his name, but one of the game's developers would pop up in the bottom right hand corner and say "toasty!" occasionally, especially after uppercuts and scorpion's original fatality. i remember if you pushed the start button or some combo of buttons while he was on the screen, you fought a hidden character (smoke or noob saibot, i think.) maybe there's some sort of hidden stuff you could unlock in stepmania?

Yeah, and you locked my thread for it. disgust.gif

Granted, it wasn't you, but you said that there were 500 other threads like it and another mod locked it.

Just kidding, I'm not angry at you. E10.gif

And yeah, enojy, that was Dan Forden.

i believe that was Ed Boon. anyway, it's in the machine options to turn off the easter eggs.

150 perfects in a row you need to get to unlock charmy saying "toasty" as in the Extreme SUCK skin it's some guy with a football helmet on and a red octane pad around his body laugh.gif

OK, so I understand she comes out after 150 perfects, but when else does she come out? I had a combo of 6 yesterday and she came out and I was really confused. Anything you got for this? Thanks.

If memory serves, it just looks for perfects and greats. a great resets the counter, so you can get 149 perfects, then a miss, then get a perfect and still get the toasty.

That was a bug. It should reset if you get anything worse than a perfect. It's since been fixed -- and changed:

Code:
   switch( scoreOfLastTap )
   {
   case TNS_MARVELOUS:
   case TNS_PERFECT:
      m_iCurToastyCombo += iNumTapsInRow;

      if( m_iCurToastyCombo==250 && !GAMESTATE->m_bDemonstrationOrJukebox )
         SCREENMAN->PostMessageToTopScreen( SM_PlayToasty, 0 );
      break;
   default:
      m_iCurToastyCombo = 0;
      break;
   }

So now it takes 250 marvs/perfects to hit the toasty, but it always happens at 250 (unless the PlayToasty code is set to not always to execute when called). And if you hit a jump at 249, you'll never see the toasty, since it requires exactly 250 perfects in a row. I don't know if that's a bug or if that's intentional (to make it more easter-eggy).

Yeah, I am aware of that now, but I was referring to an older version of SM. I've been using CVS for a while, but not everybody seems to have it for some reason or another, so I figured I might as well explain the older version of it. So if you have CVS, listen to that guy E1.gif

No, it still does the toasty, unless my metrics are somehow screwed up.
