This is more lame than the mod debate. This is the lamest thread ever! This has nothing to do with anything.
Mods, please lock this. |

I wholeheartedly agree with this argument.
For the record, I tried. Why, I'm not quite sure. The thread was pointless from the beginning. _________________

I dont think its right to label people into groups. How can you tell someone is Goth. Is it because they have cuts on their arms or is it because they have candles shaped like demons. Kids these day want to be different and feel like there being deeper then pop culture however if pop culture is moving into gothic style clothes then there just following. Im not going to bash hot topic because they know how to make money off of people.
However I think some of the EGL stuff is sexy but I dont want to see dominatrix at the arcade unless their hot. If I had a girlfriend who only DDR in EGL stuff that that would be great. |

True. I was on my way to a DDR machine and my friend stopped me and said, " Dude, those guys look like they wanna kill someone! Maybe we should come back later." I said, "What are you talking about?" Asked nicely if they were in line, they said no. Popped the tokens in, danced and the dudes cheered me on! Talked for about an hour, taught em to dance and so on. End of story, point is: You shouldnt label and judge by looks!
Actually i dont think this story was necessary, sorry about that. |

Just play it safe like me and pretend there is no such thing as goth. I mean, there are so many exceptions and false rules to being a goth, that it's just hard to keep track of what is and what isn't.
To me the term goth means nothing but a rock-n-roll/architecture style. _________________

Quoted for truth. The thread was created for a stupid reason to begin with, and now it's a thread about labeling and profiling based on looks and whatever. No offense to the original poster or anything, but seriously, do a bit of reading before you decide to make a post on the Internet. |

Doesn't this tells you how DDR is acting upon it's goal of world domination.
You have just witnessed my friend the DDR invasion of the Gothic culture. _________________

Seriously, hardly anyone in my area is a goth. Don't be racist and make judgements like that - it's just wrong. _________________

pwned.
the goths at my school aren't into ddr, only in anime. the srious ddr players dont really fit into one group... i guess it all depends on whats trendy at a given location. _________________

....wait a second, back up back up back up...how is that racist??
Anyway, to answer the OP's question, it doesn't. It's a videogame that appeals to the masses. I know of various people that play this stupid game, from Asians to the preps to the "goths"(because saying "people dressed in all black in an attempt to escape pop culture" gets tedious, and I find the term "mall-core" to be INCREDIBLY insulting, moreso than the term "bisexual") to the otaku dorks to the hardcore gamers and so forth. _________________

HAHAHAHAH!!! OH MY GOD THATS HILARIOUS AND COMPLETELY RIGHT!?
Oh, first, EVERYONE but 2 guys out of 15 people at my arcade are goth. Anyway, i saw this one kid with HUGE pants from hot topic and a cape, he was like, younger then me. Wearing one of those "you need big stick to win big fight shirts" and had these metallic silver things that fell from his pants and swang around and hit the trick bar when he moved. I thought to myself,ARE HIS PARENTS BLIND!? _________________

Now, how the Hell does this make sense? I realize that some goths are into anime because it can get kind of dark, but seeing these scary looking people with white skin and black clothes playing Love Love Sugar seems wrong to me.
It sounds hilariously wrong.
So question to all the goth DDR players out there, how does DDR fit into the category of "gothic things to do?" |
You have some issues with the way you percieve people. You need to learn that people should NEVER be labeled so bluntly, and should instead be respected (and hopefully, admired) by their expression of their individuality.
People who think it's okay that a certain image of a person automatically means he/she should follow certain activities to be socially acceptable piss me off.
How about you instead look at the trends?
Normally, people with so-called "gothic tendancies" usually hang out at the mall, yes? I can say that I, and many other people, have seen it, so it can be agreeable. It's been said earlier that the general idea of dressing in only black (and such other things), for the majority of them, is to become independent from popular trends (This will be assumed true).
Now, as we all know, DDR is present at a majority of malls. It is also fairly underground in comparison to other "usual" activities...so put two and two together, and yes...you find many people who appear "that way", who also play DDR for this reason.
So when more people choose these lifestyles as a way to become independent from society standards, the more likely they will take up DDR, because it also isn't something you see the mass majority of people doing...in comparison to many other things.
They may not ALL have the same approach, but going by the majority rule...yeah, you see many "goths" playing DDR. Hilariously wrong? Far from it.
(Hopefully I went through all this without labelling) |

My Gosh, you all... Don't act like Goth's are born goth and considered retarted and mutated. Jeez.
"DONT LABEL PEOPLE!!"-Think about what YOUR saying.
Their parents aren't buying them all black clothes and smoking pot, no one is MAKING THEM do it. WHen tehy put those clothes on and hongout with those people their labeling themselves. Let's hear a Goth's perspective on this, and if they don't like people to call them Goth. Maybe their trying to make a point when they put on those clothes? OR MAYBE THEY WERE BORN WITH STRECTHABLE BLACK CLOTHES AS SKIN!!! and its a whole nother "race" of person out there. And your "raciest" if you make fun of the fact that they hate life and "not" goth people. _________________
