I use 1.5x on almost everything. Every once in a while, I'll actually mod something to make it more challenging, like So Deep on Flat, 6-modding an easier song...

...Drop Out on Stealth. *Runs*

my people are so spoiled with mods that makes songs easier (speed mods to be more blunt.) back in the days of 4th+ (man i sound like and old man...) we played with songs so freaking slow it's not even funny... like Orion sheit man took me a while to read those freaking steps, and drop out damn that was a fast song the ending usually kills me but now it's nothing even without mods, you know why BECAUSE OLD SCHOOL IS WAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER THAN NEW! werd up!

Bag is like, the only DDR song that really needs speedmods. All the others can be read fine without it, if your alright at reading, but with bag, you gotta start on about 3x (it's what I started on) and work your way down until you know the chart well enough to not need to completley rely on sightreading.

The only other song remotely like BAG in terms of note spacing (that I can think of) is ORION .78 AMEuro Mix, which in itself isn't too bad - it really does help though in reading BAG at 1x.

i've never had problems with O.78AMeuro. Zodiac expert seems like a better comparison to me. Chaos Oni is a horrible x1 sightread as well IMO.

anyway...i use speed mods under 230, easier songs get a higher speed mod. i use note at home on SN sometimes (usually when using a high speed mod) I PA best anywhere in the 300s.

i currently use x3 on Bag, but i might bring it up to x5 E10.gif

I mostly read 300-400 on DDR.

I usually play with 3x on DDR and ITG unless the songs have a high BPM. If they do I'll play on 2.5x (ITG) or 2x (DDR). I play DDR SuperNOVA with Rainbow, and ITG with Metal or Robot. That's it.

I feel like I've been spoiled when I go from ITG to DDR.

My common mod setup on ITG would be something like 4x/5x, Overhead, 65% Mini, Cel; my setup on DDR is basically 2x, Solo/Note.

Is there a problem that people will stop using Note/Solo and fail miserably? I stopped and now I go by note position. It's not as hard as you think you 1.5xSolo-ers.

I've competed and held my own in a 5th mix Tourney (In fact, I seeded first), and I can honestly say because of that, I can read x1 decently when I wan to. (I ended up 4th, though technically 3rd and 4th were tied really.)

That being said (And I said it so people wouldn't accuse me of merely relying on speed mods as a crutch) I use speed mods all the time. I read anywhere between 250-450 in DDR. OCCASIONALLY I'll read 480 (MaxX Unlimited and Sakura x1.5), but only when I'm really trying to do well, and really only for those 2 songs.

I play Solo on Extreme and Note on SN, though obviously since I've played 5th I can deal well with Default/Vivid.

Summary: I'm a new schooler that trained myself in old school ways just in case the occasional old tourney showed up in my area.

Everyone and their mother can pass Orion.78 (AMeuro Mix) on 1x. If you think people are so "spoiled" with mods that they can't do something as simple as the aforementioned, then you're quite wrong.

And why do so many people act as if the earlier years of DDR were so much better? I've looked through the songlists of past mixes, and the only good songs I've seen that aren't still around today are God of Romance and Ghosts.

Honestly, I find it very hard to read the arrows without speed mods.
I usually use 1.5x or 2x.
Don't get me wrong, I can do songs without speed mods but it's very hard for me to read the arrows when they are so close together.

I've honestly never used mods. If I have trouble with reading a song, I'll just repeat it til I get it....

did i say that... no i did not. thank you very much. have you seen anyone play BAG for the first time in 1x and pass it decently(A or even AA it or FC), a couple probably did, while the others just say OMFG! this song is so stupid, let me use 3x so i can read it better.

because the game wasn't about "OMG i'm gonna AAA it before you sucka!" it was about having fun, meeting new people, and old songs are fun to play... unless you call 1 great on FaxX fun... i doubt it. everyone is too serious about passing songs now a days, "did you pass Chaos yet?" or "has anyone AAA FaxX?" nuff said

I'm at the point where I can play the 280+ BPMs at 1.5x and the 150- BPMs at 3x. Solo doesn't help that much once you learn the basic "feel" of the song timing.

Speed mods + solo = good PA results. Well for me it does.

I don't use any mods. Well, sometimes I use solo 'cause it looks neat. E1.gif

About bag, I think the best way to learn that song is to listen to someone play it. Then the timing clicks and it doesn't really matter how slow it is.

Let's just not mention Bag. Bag might "click" if DDR rendered triplets correctly. The more of an audio player you are, the worse you'll do, and honestly, that's messedup, ESPECIALLY since it already messe up the visual players.

Bag has problems.

Before ever playing it, i downloaded a video from AIJ. i probably STILL wouldn't be able to pass Bag if i didn't.

When i'm learning a new song i bump it up to around 300-350 BPM. Like i tried Orion 78. (AMeuro Mix) today for the first time, i had it on 3x. Next time i'm gonna drop it to 2x.
