The whole concept was a complete misunderstanding, or rather, an overreaction. It's so funny that not many people have heard of it because it caused a HUGE stir in the DDR community. Solo machines were definitely scattered around quite a bit and 6-panel was being played a lot more often, especially witth the release of Konamix, and one angry parent and a group of misinformed censor-happy parents scared enough arcade owners to rid themselves of Solo2k cabinets. A lot of anti-PIU sentiment came about at this time, as well, because rather than take a risk of buying another DDR machine (since it was associated with all this controversy), quite a few arcade owners who didn't know any better got PIU to replace their Solo2k.
I guess with all the people coming into this game around Extreme, things like these get lost in history, eh? |

Personally, I've ever played 6 panel DDR on one of the home mixes very early into my DDR skill level. I have a friend that is a total bemani music game addict and he had every playstation/playstation 2 version of DDR, so I do remember playing it once. I didn't really remember doing much with it, since I was only learning light/basic at the time.
It would definetely be interesting to play again, since I have definetely improved quite a lot after that time. I'm always looking for new challenges, or something to challenge the endurance level a lot more.
In terms of the Solo2k cabinets, I've only ever got the chance to play DDR: USA, DDR: Extreme and ITG 2. Its kind of funny that arcades would get rid of an arcade machine just because of an image that people can interept as an evil falic symbol.
I just don't understand, but if I played that song, with the nurse riding a syringe with drugs flying across the screen, its not going to make me want to go have sex with a nurse and start using needles and drugs.
If parents and people who let censorship play an important part in their lives are being so anal about that kind of image I'm surprised these people aren't getting pissy about a certain yu-gi-oh card, and banning their kids from playing yu-gi-oh and watching the show.
This is the card I'm talking about:
I'm sorry, but anytime this card is on the cartoon she is always riding that syringe like it is her best friend. I'll be honest I've never seen the video on the solo2k cabinet, so the image I posted here may not have any resemblance of the image the young lady is making reference to on this forum. When I look at this yu-gi-oh card its not going to want me want to have sex with a nurse or take drugs. I'm sure the same can be said for the video.
Anyway in terms of 6 panel DDR, I would definetely love to play it again. I guess it would open up an entire new skill level for myself, and personally I would like to see it back. _________________

For DDR, it was different back then, though. It wasn't nearly close to as mainstream as it is now. DDR is so big and there are so many positive things that are recognized in it nowadays that even with "Little Bitch" on almost every machine out there, you never see a serious threat to remove all of them due to offensive content, because it makes so much money now that no one cares.
Back then though, it was a different story. DDR was popular but still small and targetable by overzealous parents, and that's what helped effectively kill off 6-panel. |

Wrong solo, I believe. That's referring to the color of the arrows, not the six-panel arrow smashy deelie of doom you're thinking of. |

Wait, so you're saying Konami actually playtests crappy stepcharts like, say, The Reflex? _________________

The reason they're called Solo though is because the Solo mix is where they debuted. They're a little differently shaped, but they started the blue/yellow/purple colored arrow trend that we're so familiar with today. |

There's a Techno Motion at my bowling alley. Its slogan is something like "The next platform in dancing games". Underneath the big Techno Motion marquee, there's smallar pictures of Dance Dance Revolution and Pump It Up (With company logos and everything), but none of the songs are really very good. The hardest song (I've only played four panel so far) is called "Next 2" or something like that, and it's a midlevel 9, I'd say. I stopped playing it because the songs aren't great, and the Fast and the Furious game next to it is more fun and takes dollars without having to be turned into tokens first. _________________

| I played on a technomotion machine on 2 different occasions. I was not impressed with the 8 or 9 panel mode or any mode. Some of the modifiers it had you can see in In the Groove today, so that was kind of cool, but overall, small music selection, nothing noteworthy, and below par steps (in my opinion) |

I think Pop n' stage needs a revival, 20 panel DDR baby.
but seriouly, IMO solo died because the songs sucked and the game was not good enuff to overcome that.(i'm talking solo 2K)
Bass mix is discusting. Bad songs. really really bad songs. _________________

6 panel is too easy for people to think you are good.
I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool but it's never going to happen*
*they also said there would not be a 9th mix arcade BWTF _________________
