The hardest song on 1st Mix was indeed the original Paranoia, but not on Standard. 1st Mix had Heavy/Maniac or whatever it was called at the time. Paranoia was a 7-footer on Standard/Another and the only 8-footer on Heavy/Maniac, so the Heavy/Maniac stepchart is the hardest Single stepchart.

Double is a bit of a different story. Double didn't have Heavy/Maniac stepcharts at the time, but on Double Standard/Another, Paranoia was also an 8-footer, so it wins on Double as well.

As to whether the Single Heavy/Maniac stepchart of the Double Standard/Another stepchart is harder (they're both 8-footers), that'd be a matter of opinion based on how comfortable you are with Double.

These are all my opinions:
1st- paranoia
2nd- trip machine luv mix
3rd- gradiusic cyber
4th- either leading cyber, drop out, or furahuta's theme (i miss this song)
5th- either insertion or paranoia eternal (the 5th mix steps were kinda dumb though)
6th- max 300, but alot of people find so deep to be hard as well
7th- maxx unlimited
8th- if you hate speed, legend of max. if you hate crossovers, paranoia survivor max
even though you asked for just the older mixes, i decided to throw the newer ones in to.
