I just beat Matsuri Japan relatively easy, I can A it no problem... But Burning Heat I will get a C at best... Which is only an 8 foot... Anyone else find this kind of funky?

Not really. There are numerous songs that I can name off the top of my head that don't really fit with their foot rating. Burning the Floor is a 9 (upgraded from an 8) but isn't really 9 material IMO. Then Sakura is a 10 but is a lot easier than other 10s. Drop Out was also upgraded to a 9 but it isn't THAT hard.

burning heat = 9
burnin the floor = 7, mislabeled as a 9 in max2. typo

No. It is not a typo. They "upgraded" it to a cata. Then they realized they were wrong and downgraded it. Notice how Drop Out was "upgraded' as well?

I doubt Konami would've seriously looked at Burning the Floor and said "Hey, this should be 9 feet." It's most likely a labeling error.
I'd like to know how Paranoia KCET became a cata on Extreme.
And why aren't Waka Laka and Witch Doctor 9 feet? They're harder than any 8 I know.

And Lucavious: What mix are you playing on where Burning Heat is 8 feet?

Burning Heat is a nine, and a very difficult one at that.

As far as I know, Burnin' the Floor was a typo on Max 2; it got confused w/ Burning Heat (see above). I believe it was changed from a 7 to an 8 for Extreme though...

And yes Witch Doctor and Waka Laka are hard 8's...

Apart from "labelling problems", unless you're an excellent player, you'll have certain strengths and weaknesses... that'd contribute to making some songs more or less difficult for you than the foot rating would've led you to expect.

All songs of a given foot rating are not equal. Some are badly rated, some depend on certain strengths. In this case, Burning Heat is actually a 9, and one of the harder ones, to boot. Japan is a relatively easy one, especially if you can gallop well.

I definately think Witch Doctor should be a 9. Paranoia KCET should not be a 9, though. And Sakura oni isn't that hard of a 9 either, just the middle is confusing at first, until you understand it slows down.

Long Train Runnin' isn't an easy 7, either, seems 8 material to me..and Waka Laka isn't that hard after you get the JUMP, DOUBLE JUMP parts down. E15.gif

That's like saying PSMO isn't that hard once you get the 580bpm runs of death down laugh.gif

This whole topic is nonsense because the original poster made a mistake by thinking that burning heat is a 8 foot song, which it is not. Yes, some 9 foot songs are harder then others. Yay.

True. Waka Laka should stay at an eight footer. But Witch doctor is just straight up gay. After the stream/jackhammer steps/stream/jack it's like dude! wtf! I'm having problem getting an A on that piece of crap song.

I might like to mention that, at least as in American releases, pre-Konamix rating was much more strict than after. For instance, 9 foot Dynamite Rave on Maniac is a cinch, but in the next game, I have trouble beating many 7 and 8 foot songs.

This is the same thing with Cartton Heroes.
That song SHOULD be a 10 footer. Or a 9 1/2 at most.
I thought some one else would beat me to saying this!
haha ahahah aha haha! ok... im done.

it doesnt matter the step, really, the feet say how many steps per beat, thats why sakura and bag are 10 footers, and why legend of max is a flashing 10 footer

Cartoon Heroes is not a 10, I beat it on reverse 1.5 hidden dark the first time I played it and I haven't even passed any of the max songs.

DIDNT YOU HEARS ME!?!?!, its not the difficulty, the max songs could be a difficulty for like 15 for all it matters, but its speed is only enough to be a 10 footers

Adman: Where'd you hear that? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I was always under the impression that there was more to the step ratings than that. I thought that's why they had the meter to accompany the step rating, to show you the how hard the different aspects of the song (voltage, freeze, air, etc.) were. I guess you base your arguement in the idea that they're not ratings at all. If you have a link or something to back up your comment, post it, it would be interesting. Has anyone else heard of that?
