Now, now. Keep it civil or a mod will come in here shortly and pimp-slap you.

I was going to disagree with DancingTofu, but now that I think of it he's absolutely right.

When you go to a talent show, what do most people do there as their 'talent?' At least around here, 99% of the time it has to do with playing an instrument. This is an activity which not everyone can do, which requires a good deal of time to perform at a high level of proficiency, which is not impressive if you suck, and which may not be well received by the audience if the audience does not particularly like the style.

DDR isn't something everyone can do. Doing it very well requires a lot of practice time. It's not impressive at all if you're terrible, but very impressive if you're excellent. And if they're unfamiliar with it or haven't been exposed to it, an audience might look at DDR and think, 'that's stupid.' Much like they would respond to a musician who plays something over their heads. Case in point, my jazz group played at my high school talent show and got a mediocre response, even though we played pretty well - most people aren't receptive to it because they're not used to it. Same goes for DDR.

So in that respect at least, it's a feasible excuse for a talent, the likes of which you see at talent shows all over the place. And even the idea of it not being creative doesn't necessarily apply, since most bands at these shows generally play covers. As in, they play the notes another person/group already laid out, much like a stepchart is already laid out for a dancer.

It's not what I'd consider a great choice for a talent, but it could work. I suppose good luck, then, since I'm pretty sure it won't be well-received no matter what. Have fun, at least.

No, but I notice almost all of your posts consist of one sentence saying what you think without supporting your argument at all.

Fair enough, I'll address your comment from your last post.

K seriously, who cares if you can read notes and move your hands, as with playing a guitar?

I'm drawing a comparison between DDR and playing an instrument, an argument I happily invite you to refute using logic and, hopefully, examples.

ok, guitar is definetly doable. but honestly, a fucking video game? you watch the screen and do what it says. you can improv on an instrument, but not on a video game. as i said before, if ddr is going to be let into the talent show, then so should halo or some other POS video game. there are some things you can be good at that just shouldn't be put to public in that way. it gives dancing games a bad rep when someone that sucks at it, attempts to show off in a talent show.

I can respect that opinion, CH. As I said, I'm almost 100% certain that a DDR exhibition at a talent show will not be received well. Most people will probably just shake their heads sadly. Most people just don't appreciate the skill required to play DDR well, or the amount of fun it can be.

Zero, you're brave as hell. Or incredibly stupid. Take your pick.

Because it's not like there's something called freestyle. disturb.gif

Freestyle = performance. That's it's ONLY purpose, unless you include making easy stepcharts slightly less boring as a purpose.

That said, I'd much rather watch someone fully focused on actually dancing than playing Ordinary World on Standard while freestyling.

Dance games are supposed to be fun, performance games. The reason they're successful is because someone sees someone who's really good, digs what they see, and tries it out. It's a quality that makes it pretty stupid to compare to other video games. Nobody ever watches in awe when I play Thrill Drive 2 at the arcade, even though I'm way better at that than I am at DDR.

Also, one of my mom's friends' kids recently won a talent show playing DDR. The biggest event at homecoming at my school was when I brought my pads and some PS2 DDR games to school and let everyone make a fool of themselves in front of the whole school, and between watching other people fail, I'd play a tough 9 or easy 10. I don't care if it's an idiotic thing to do for a talent show; it's still a crowd-pleaser. Statistics speak louder than opinions, and statistics say YES.

wow i thought you were in middle school cause of this lack of common sense. when else have you seen a video game being at a talent show? probably never. if anyone is to freestyle at a talent show, its probably the group of dancers/freestylers thats at damn near every school. dancing in general is pretty cool to watch, but not when your watching arrows and moving your feet, that just shows you have decent coordination between your eyes and your legs. if people want to watch you play dancing games, they'll go to the arcade. unless you're on of those players that only plays at home. but i bet you if you were at the arcade, and people from your school walked by, people you didn't know, they would probably make fun of you for it. i bet about 90% of the people there would either boo you off or make fun of you later. basically don't make a fool out of yourself at a talent show when you're not going to win.

I have to disagree. People from school have watched me play and they think I'm great. You're totally exaggerating the loserdom of DDR.

People who aren't familiar with the game will be amazed whether you play Peace(^^)v or Fascination Maxx.

all depends on their level of maturity and if they've seen someone play before.

It doesn't matter. They don't know what songs are easy or hard.

I sorta agree with that, since when I play some Doubles songs to try and not totally suck at them (I play them on light to practice.) it's like the funniest poopy ever. When I switch back to singles with 9's, more freaky than funny.

It depends on the maturity of the audience watching..since most people apparently go for the "DDR is so freaking gay" impression right away it seems. The goal for entertaining new people is to make it not seem as gay as sunshine. laugh.gif

People aren't retarded. What, they're supposed to know FELMO is considered the hardest song?

if they can't see 400*1.5 going reverse, then they're gonna think its harder than 130*2, which they can see them, but can't necessarily read them because they don't play.
