Emphasis. Get your kids OUTSIDE to RUN, not step. DDR/ITG/Pump is fine, but it is only an indoor game that runs on electricity, not a sport that can be played. Get your kids interested/playing SPORTS if you are competant enough; basketball and football make you move similarly to Stepping games of you really want them to learn left/right/etc. _________________

I started when i was 10 (Im 12 now) and i passed Sakura and Max 300 when i was 11. Me and my friends go to the arcade and we see a seven year old playing DDR and like someone already said "HE WAS DAMN CLOSE TO PASSING SAKURA!" _________________

Well once when I was at the arcade there was this girl and she was 7 ytears old and playing ddr on heavy. She was doing beter then I was at the time! But I'd say 4 or 5 would be a good age to really start playing. But I would atempt to start teaching him how to play, and hit the arows, as soon as he has mastered walking. _________________

| umm...no specific age...I think they're too young when they need to run/walk to the next arrow in order to hit it. But at least old enough to pay attention long enough for the 3 songs. |

| my 7 year old bro has been playin for about a year, and he can pass almost all 9 footers, all 8's, and has AAed all the Max's on Standard. DDR has helped him in everything, and he loves it. As do I...LOL |

I think it is a great idea to expose children to DDR because of both the music and healthy exercise. However, you should be cautious if the child wants to play at an arcade...
Boardwalk @ North Wildwood, NJ. - August 23rd 2005 - Ed's Funcade 3
I spotted this small child playing DDR in a crowded arcade on the boardwalk. He was actually doing well and passing light songs. Unfortunately, the people you see gathered around him were in a massive screaming fight over who was up next, and the poor kid almost caught a few elbows as ignorant people waved their hands in eachother's faces. He failed his last song do to the people and ran away from the crowd, I didn't know who was supposed to be watching him but I bet it was not an adult.
I've seen DDR players get nasty towards eachother really fast in a crowd, especially when the arcade is in a popular location like a large mall or boardwalk. I would recommend playing at a dedicated arcade location such an amusement center that caters to kids, if you were to play outside the home that is.
Just as another anecdote, about 2 years ago before I could pass Max 300, a slightly chubby 7-year-old girl beasted me on hvy. Then she got close to passing LoM hvy on double! It was unbelivable. _________________
