Cutriss, I'm curious to know why you somewhat rebut Reenee's claim that a new arcade DDR can't be made unless a 3rd party publishes it. This is true for the US and not JP, I know. Maybe that's what was meant.
Why does Konami need someone else to publish their games? They self-publish everything.

Did you mean to say "distribute"? Because that's an *ENTIRELY* different ball of wax.

This could be the beginning of the end, ddr being released only on x-box. Not necessacirily a bad thing.

Yeah, that's what I think was meant. I've wondered this for a while, ever since Konami's arcade division shut its doors, I'm sure they'd be able to find another company to distribute the game (a la Nintendo/Rare doing Killer Instinct but Midway distributing it). With that kind of investment, that would also possibly mean bigger licenses and such; unless I'm thinking about it wrong, but considering the popularity here now, I'd think some other company would be intrigued.

I would think that'd be their only option, considering what they've done for the Andamiro lawsuit.

Getting a 3rd party to distribute it (as they've done with Warzaid) probably won't cause them to make the licensing budget any bigger - they'd be more concerned about reducing operating costs by not manning a set of offices that they don't use frequently enough.

In other words, having a 3rd party to distribute/service the machines for them would be reflected in lower upfront expenses, meaning that the opportunities for more releases would be more plentiful.

Not that this has changed anything. E15.gif

Nobody really knows that they ever made any concessions to Andamiro. Remember - the settlement was in their favor, and most companies are *loathe* to ever permanently seal themselves off from any market.

You have to consider:
-Software production (new songs, interface, features.)
-Cabinet production
-Distribution
-Fiscal boundries (pertaining to licenses.)

Why, unlike home games, I don't really see anyone who downgrades whole arcade machines to older versions. With home games they still make money off old games.

Larrikin is right, arcade machine software kits (each OFFICIAL kit costs about $3000) arn't usually downgradeable anyway. It would be a good buisiness practice, so that arcades will buy these kits without worrying about the upset patrons (who miss the old mix).
