the t is not silent, you just don't really hear it if you aren't listening.

There's lots of subtelty in Japanese that you aren't likely to catch if you don't speak it. For instance, the "t" in tsugaru IS pronounced, but it's very subtle and to somebody who didn't know better, "Tsu" wouldn't sound much different than "ssu."
Much like the "d" and "r" (let's not get started on confusion between "r" and "l") sound in Japanese sound very close if you can't pick up the subtle differences, or the "su" in "masu" and "desu" sounding almost silent (they just are not very emphasised, so "desu" sounds more like "dess."

I'd like to reiterate, if people want to discuss the finer points of linguistics, it should be taken to a topic in Random Chat.

One could think of the name in pronounciation as something like "Catsugaru." Meow.

exactamente así... bi for iu
es una forma rápida de escribir "antes que tu"

te recomiendo abrir un tópico de este estilo en América Latina para seguir usando español... es algo extraño usarlo en medio de tanto inglés

I dont think anyone has got it right yet...
JaneJana = Za-nay-za-na as per the Indian pronunciation. No J sounds at all. And if you actually listen to it, you'll hear it's a Z sound anyway. But granted, I can't verify this 100% yet.

Tsugaru. Yes, the T is pronounced, but subtle, as someone else said. I have more international-student friends from Japan than you can shake a stick at, and they clarified this for me once and for all.
