i have a girlfriend too but taht doesnt mean i dont like to impress people when i play E13.gif
fact of the matter is, in the midwest there isnt the insanely huge ddr following there is along say, the coasts, or japan. so when i go play ddr, 99% of the time i AM the best player there (i only know 1, maybe 2 people better then me, and ive SEEN 3 better players in person, but didnt meet them).

songs i play to show off? So Deep (Perfect Sphere Remix) is a great one because not only does it LOOK impressive, but usually the weird lookin ddr all-knowers i see round here will have to pick their jaw up off the floor when im done with that one.
Sweet Sweet <3 Magic is fast and good for impressing people too. has that extra "Love" factor too.
a lot of the time though im playin songs like Ever Snow, Freckles, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Kakumei, The Reflex, or just plain fun songs like Cowgirl, A Minute (Extended Mix), and Firefly on 2x/boost/dark and sometimes i'll throw in hidden (impression factor) and/or shuffle (if there's other decent ddr players in the vicinity)

Well...the threads here aren't bad...I'm just getting tired of the monotonous "Girl" related threads and their bad perspective about them and how DDR would "impress" them...the girls here.....are NOT impressed about DDR players...infact by the way most of them act here sometimes I'm embarassed to qualify myself a DDR player in front of females...it's pretty sad. DDR players have an etiquette to follow too regarding manners and politeness.

If you want to impress that special someone, you play Cutie Chaser. Then when you're finished, you jump off the machine and over to that someone and say "Aha! Caught ya!"

Then you get the unholy hell beaten out of you by the someones significant other.

You guys take this too damn seriously E13.gif

I'm in Edinburgh at the moment (just started at the university here) and this place is the armpit of the galaxy as far as DDR goes. Basically nobody plays and considering all we have here is Euromix 2 (To all you guys who say you want to play on this: YOU DON'T. Trust me. There are better DDR machines out there than a castrated Max2 with a whole bunch of crap by Steps).

I'm trying to get the student union to install a DDR Extreme; they say they'll install a DDR machine of some sort at around Easter. I'm certainly not out to pick up any girls with DDR (but hey I wouldn't complain if that made em notice me in a good light E13.gif ) as much as just get more people playing -- playing with a bunch of other people is a lot more fun than being the only damn person in the arcade.

So, to put it another way I don't try to make myself look good as much as make DDR look good; usually when there's a few people in the vicinity of the machine I play a few fun songs and invite them to have a try. Even if I COULD do Max300, then, I wouldn't, because while it looks impressive it just looks damn hard and that's quite a turnoff. So I go for stuff with interesting rhythms and a lot of turns eg

CANDY*
Nice and fun (love that on-off off-on on-off jump jump bit in the middle!) and the music is fairly light too. I actually got a round of applause after doing this on Heavy yesterday!

... wtf!? my browser just hit Submit randomly

I'll continue here

Spin The Disc
Also fairly straightforward but looks cool, esp that spin bit near the start

CSFILSM
Rather heavy (I remember thinking I was the shiznit when I first passed this) but this has a fair few turns in it and generally looks quite impressive

Exotic Ethnic
Hard. But fun.

Oh yeah, stay away from gallopy songs. My fave is prolly Tsugaru at the moment but this tends to leave onlookers a bit nonplussed...

Great pick up line, there. E13.gif

I personally don't want a girlfriend right now, and I wouldn't particularly want to pick someone up with DDR.

However, I'll play to impress people every once in a while (when there are people around). I'm not a great player like the rest of you, but I find that the best way to impress a crowd is just to do songs that you can have fun on, as well as one you can look good on.

Moving my buttocks and becoming incredibly tired just to pass Max300 heavy is not something I would recommend (hell, I can't even do it riiight.gif). But, playing an easier version of the song can look very good. Every once in a while, I like to play Max300 on light. Is it hard? No, of course not. But showing off that FC or AA when barely even seeming to exert energy helps. Especially if you add a few turns.

I also don't recommend songs that you can't do in a smooth motion (i.e. songs that require you to jerk your body to hit the steps). Even if you can AA it, it doesn't look THAT great. There are some exceptions, though (like FC'ing LoM heavy), but try to play difficult songs that you're very familiar with.

My final idea would be to play songs that are just plain fun to listen to or fun to watch (Ecstasy, B4U, B2U KOG G3, Saints, Kakumei, Burning Heat).

Most of all, have fun, and don't let others hinder your performance. Always play like it's just you and the machine.

Amen. Really, people, in all honesty, thinking of ways to score on DDR just means you have no means otherwise. Talk about something else.

I understand impressions, but you all are going in too far...

my personal judgment on people trying to pick up girls via ddr shall remain anonymous...

so for the sake of answering the question...you people should play:

it's raining men
it's raining men
it's raining men

It's time for a little female point of view on this subject...

Contrary to what many people have said, there are two groups of girls in existence who will be impressed by a good DDR show. The first is the DDR freak-ish girls who will love to get up and compete with you, a sure sign you've got their attention. The other group is the girls who follow their male friends to the arcades and have no clue about DDR, giving you open opportunity to teach her the basics...

There is a third group, and beware of these. The group of girls who have friends who DDR, but they do not. They despise the game, and will despise you if you play.

Just a little inner-circle advice.

And then there's me. Trying to impress my would-be boyfriend (a DDRer) has not proven to be successful. When I do worse than him, he yells at me. When I do better than him, he gets mad and won't let me be happy. blink.gif IS NOTHING RIGHT IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE?!

Or Dead End, just like our relationship.

Or Never Ending Story, like when you start gabbing away about all your problems. frust.gif

Or Movin' On, just like that girl your are trying to get by playing DDR. (sorry)

Anyway, I've said it before, and I'll say it again; you aren't going to get a girl by playing DDR, unless maybe if she plays it herself.

I would play A on Heavy. It gives me such an awesome feeling when I'm playing it and when a cute girl is watching me, it's twice as incredible!

..............
..............

That does not sound like good boyfriend material. I suggest looking for someone better.

Anyway, you're probably not going to impress someone, unless they play, too. I don't think it looks impressive to people walking by when they see someone jumping around sweating madly. riiight.gif To each his/her own, though.

Hey, I have a G/F, the best I've ever known in my life, so loveble.

Anyways, she knows wht DDR is and thinks it's awsome I can do it, but hasn't seen me play, and wants me to really bad.

All I know is, don't choos those "OMGZ!!!111!!!!!HolY CRAAp!!!!!!I'm sWEatiG LIEEEK HELLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!" songs, like, any of them "MAX" songs.

Songs that make you look like you're actually dancing cool.

Long Train 'Runnin freestyle is very good.

So Deep (Perfect Spear Mix) and Burning Heat (3 Option Mix) are a good way to imprese them, I know from experiance it catch's attention.

Hmm, wht else...

Tears is actually good.

To make em laugh, do a good Witch Doctor F/S.

The DDRMAX2 A Minute Girl(You know, that faster one), is pretty cool sounding.

That's all I can think of right now.
